SNOWLODGE AT OLD FAITHFUL |
|
|
Built to replace several cabins destroyed in the fire of 1988, Old Faithful Snow Lodge has quickly become a recognized and renowned feature of Yellowstone National Park. Fischer & Associates approached this National Park Service site design project with a clear understanding of the unique challenges afforded by a place that was to accommodate such a vast number and variety of users and modes of transportation, from pedestrians to tour busses, bicycles to snowmobiles, all while maintaining a pedestrian friendly "village" sympathetic to the enjoyment and expectation of YNP visitors. As such, the ultimate incarnation of this design will reroute vehicular traffic to the perimeter of the site, leaving the main commercial street for pedestrian traffic at the village's core. Another challenge included the re-establishment of native vegetation using plant material from the site's native seed, a strategy consistent with Fischer & Associates' commitment to the preservation of native site ecology whenever possible. |
